Getting Started
Grant SnapRid access to your folders
On first launch, choose Scan My Mac to walk through Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Pictures one folder at a time, or Choose Folders… to pick your own. Each folder needs its own confirmation in the macOS picker that appears. SnapRid never sees a folder you have not explicitly approved, and you can add or remove folders later from Settings.
Let it scan
SnapRid reads file names, dimensions, and macOS's own screenshot metadata to find screenshots in the folders you granted, including inside subfolders. A first scan of a large library can take a few minutes; after that, SnapRid watches those folders live and picks up new screenshots automatically.
Everyday Operations
Browse and search
The main window is a fast, scrollable grid. The search field in the toolbar matches file names and, once Pro is unlocked, the text recognized inside each screenshot, plus a few plain-language filters such as “large screenshots,” “last month,” or “older than 1 year.”
Search everywhere at once (⌘K)
Press ⌘K from anywhere in the app to open a command-style overlay that searches the on-screen text of every screenshot in your library, not just the section you happen to be viewing. Press Return on a result to jump straight to it. This is a Pro feature.
Categories
SnapRid sorts screenshots into categories such as Receipts, Invoices, Code, Errors, Travel, Shopping, and Messages automatically, based on their recognized text. No manual tagging is required.
Duplicates and Near Duplicates
Exact copies (byte-for-byte matches, even if saved in two different folders) and near-duplicates (the same capture, resized or re-saved) are grouped into cards. Select All or Keep First, Delete Rest handles a whole group in one action.
Smart Cleanup
Surfaces screenshots that are old, unusually large, or likely temporary (one-time codes, tracking numbers) as suggestions. SnapRid never deletes anything on its own; you always choose what actually gets cleaned up.
Archive and Restore
Archive moves selected screenshots into a tidy Year / Month / Category folder structure instead of deleting them. Restore puts an archived screenshot back exactly where it came from.
Export a ZIP
Select a set of screenshots and create a ZIP for sharing or backup. Originals are never touched, moved, or modified by an export.
Menu bar
SnapRid lives in the menu bar for quick access to Scan Now, Clean Up, and Settings without opening the main window.
Settings
Manage which folders SnapRid can see, how large a “large file” is, how old is “old,” how similar two screenshots need to be to count as near-duplicates, appearance, and how often SnapRid scans automatically (manually, hourly, daily, or weekly).
Free and Pro
SnapRid is free to scan, browse, and search your 500 most recent screenshots by file name, date, and size. Duplicate and Near Duplicate groups are free to browse in full. A one-time SnapRid Pro purchase, no subscription and no account, unlocks on-screen text search (including the ⌘K overlay), automatic categorization, Archive, ZIP export, Smart Cleanup's cleanup actions, and removes the 500-screenshot limit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does SnapRid upload my screenshots anywhere?
No. Every scan, every bit of text recognition, and every categorization decision happens on your Mac. The only network connection SnapRid makes at all is Apple's own StoreKit traffic to process the one-time Pro purchase. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Is SnapRid Pro a subscription?
No. It is a single one-time purchase through the App Store. There is no recurring charge and no account or sign-in of any kind, Pro included.
What exactly does the free version include?
Scanning, browsing, and file name, date, and size search across your 500 most recent screenshots, plus full browsing of Duplicate and Near Duplicate groups. Text recognition runs in the background on the free tier too; Pro is what surfaces those results in search, categories, and cleanup actions.
Will SnapRid ever delete something permanently?
Trashing a screenshot moves it to the macOS Trash, exactly like deleting it yourself in Finder, so it can still be recovered from there until you empty it. SnapRid never bypasses the Trash, and Smart Cleanup only ever suggests candidates; nothing is removed without your action.
Which folders can SnapRid see?
Only folders you explicitly approve through the macOS folder picker during onboarding or from Settings. SnapRid cannot browse anywhere else on your Mac, by design, not just by policy.
What does SnapRid count as a "near duplicate"?
Screenshots that are visually almost identical, such as the same capture saved twice or lightly re-compressed, using on-device perceptual hashing rather than an exact byte match. The similarity threshold is adjustable in Settings if it feels too strict or too loose for your library.
What macOS version does SnapRid need?
macOS 14 or later.
I bought Pro on one Mac. Do I need to buy it again on another?
No. It is a standard App Store purchase tied to your Apple ID, so it is already available on any Mac you are signed into with that same account. If a Mac does not show it as unlocked, use Restore Purchases in Settings.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled entirely by Apple, not by us directly. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com or through Settings › Media & Purchases on your Mac.
SnapRid missed a new screenshot. What should I check?
Confirm the folder it landed in is one you granted access to, and that "Automatically scan new screenshots" is on in Settings. A manual Scan Now (⌘R) will always pick up anything live monitoring missed.
